America's Oil Industry Vs Biofuels-Alternative Algae-oil

Solar Power Questions:

Why do Cons want to drill more vs. implementing alternative energy strategies and getting away from oil?

Are cons that feeble minded?

We have a pool of outstanding Universities to come up with solutions yet cons rather drill more, unbelievable.

There's a disconnect here. No one is saying that we should be running on oil forever. The problem is that while alternative solutions are developed and taking time to become mainstream (remember...320,000,000 people in America alone), we're going to need energy, and our only other energy source right now that is readily available is oil. Why should we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot and be beholden to our enemies when we can become independent, lower the price of fuel and allow for oil companies to focus their resources on alternative energies themselves.

I love how people think that oil companies are just going to try and pump oil forever. Like, if tomorrow we went to hydrogen, oil companies would be out there pushing cheaper and cheaper oil.

They're corporations, and just like every other one in the world, they're in it for profits. When the world switches to energy sources other than oil, oil companies are going to want a stake in that as well, which they're entitled to the same as everyone else. What if, instead of punishing oil companies, we give them incentive to focus on alternative energies, especially since they already have billions in the bank?

And you're right, we do have an incredible number of resources to get to working on another technology, but by punishing oil, you're already eliminating TRILLIONS of dollars in R&D. How about our government steps in, and instead of kicking people when they're down, readjusts they're spending like they've promised so many times, and subsidizes (responsibly and not like a drunk throwing money out of a window) schools, individuals and companies (yes even--dare I say--oil companies) to come up with the first truly viable alternative to fossil fuels.

Remember too, even if we did ween off of oil tomorrow, we still need it for other things. The alternative technologies most people have in mind is for standard transportation over the highways. How about airlines, ships and trains? How about lubrication in just about every metal to metal connection the world over? How about the textiles created from hydrocarbon chains? We don't have all of the solutions yet, so to take away what is working and to replace it with ??? is ridiculous.

In order to not be feeble minded, I would think that you'd have to think long AND short term. I guess you already knew that though, right?
