Looking for Solar Home system details and estimation...?
Living in Chennai, India... Thinking to install alternative solar power system for my home to reduce the state EB power consumption.. Pls.. through some lime light for the following..
1. System generating power need to support minimum requirement of a middle class home in city...
(Tubelight, Fan, A/C, Refrigerator....)
2. The system must be automatic for selecting both solar power and state EB power depends upon their availability.

For some planning ideas, and sizing, you can try http://www.builditsolar.com While the site is US oriented, much of the information is universal.
As a guess for size assuming a 5KW/2 Ton AC system, Likely you would be in the range of 6 Kilowatts for panels assuming minimal battery charging. If the AC runs all night as well, 10 Kilowatts of panels would not be out of line. But you would need probably 20 to 30 batteries as well.
As for the switching capability, a simple transfer switch system is avaialable in the US from several manufacturers for US standard power of 120 VAC @ 60Hertz, I an sure Philips or Siemens make them too for European standard 250 VAC @ 50Hertz.
Cost estimates are going to vary, and being in the US, what I could estimate for US prices would likely be way off from what you would find.
