Solar Power Questions:
help with my science homework?
In my science homework I am an astronaut in 2030 that has been stranded 50 miles away from the command module. I was asked to rank the following items, that I salvaged from my team's lunar rover, from 1-10 in order of importance, 1 being the most important.
the items are :
-4 packages of food concentrate
-20 meters of nylon rope
-1 portable heating unit
-1 magnetic compass
-1 box of matches
-1 first aid kit
-2x50 kg tanks of oxygen
-20 liters of water
-1 star chart
-1 case of dehydrated milk
-1 solar powered radio transmitter
-3 signal flares
-1 large piece of parachute fabric
-1 flashlight
-2x45-caliber pistols
Thanks for the help
I am assuming that you are alone and that there is at least one other astronaut in the command module 50 miles away, and it is daytime.
Go through the entire list one by one and place them in one of four categories in any order.
1) Things you need to prevent you from dying immediately.
tanks of oxygen (to breathe)
portable heating unit (it's cold in space)
2) Things you need to make it through the day.
packages of food concentrate (needed to live)
magnetic compass (for navigating)
first aid kit (for emergencies)
liters of water (needed to live)
star chart (for navigating)
solar powered radio transmitter (for calling for help)
signal flares (for signalling help)
3) Things you need to make it through the night.
large piece of parachute fabric (for shelter)
nylon rope (to build the shelter)
4) Things you need later or don't need
box of matches (keep away from oxygen)
case of dehydrated milk (only for longer stays)
.45 caliber pistols (nothing expected)
Now rate them within each category doing one category at a time. If category 1 has items #1 and #2, then the most important item in category 2 will be item #3. And so on and so on.
