Should the US transform a hundred thousand acres of western desert into a solar panel power plant?

Anyone who has driven from Vegas to Arizona will have seen large arrays of solar panels. They are in uninhabitable areas of no scenic worth. Not even scrubland. Any rattlesnake worth its salt could slither around the panels with ease.
If those "sun-farms" can produce only a few kilowatts, they are producing more than was produced there before - zilch.
