Building an R/C Airplane that could circle the Earth?

With all the latest gadgets and toys out there to build, has anyone ever considered building a small solar powered plane that runs on GPS, that could be programmed to fly the globe at a good altitude.

Although solar power cannot move a human realistically, there are some light plane constructions that might be able to handle it. I know the weather would likely knock it out of the sky, but with a little luck and a small digital camera onboard, wouldn't it be neat to see if you could fly it around the globe, and to land back your place after the final leg of the trip?
Make it fly on a program, not from a two way radio. Set the coordinates and let it execute them. There would be some AI written of course.
