Is Either Solar Set-Up Better?

I have seen 2 types of solar power set-ups,one is the solar panel and the other is the solar tower with reflective mirrors.Is one better than the other when ALL aspects are taken into consideration? I'm talking of things like amount of realestate used,cost,output,etc Thanks.

The choice of a flat-panel photovoltaic array or a concentrating collector (parabolic mirror type) depends mostly on your location. In a place where there is very little cloud cover, the concentrating type is more efficient. On the other hand, even if you have clear skies, if it's windy you'll be more challenged by the concentrating collector. Generally the reflective type collectors are only used in desert locations, and generally larger installations, where efficient use can be made of the higher temperatures generated -- often a steam turbine generator. Where there is more cloud cover the reflectors are not efficient, so the flat PV panels are preferred. For household use, the photovoltaic panel is the better choice, preferably with a tracking device for highest efficiency.
