Alternative Energy Bills In Congress
Just Getting Started
Steve Driehaus counts banking, health care reform and advocacy for Cincinnati as major accomplishments in his first term Steve Driehaus was one of many Democratic challengers to grab Barack Obama's coattails in 2008 and sweep into Washington, D.C., handing the party large majorities in both houses of Congress. As he points out, 2008 wasn't a great time to begin your Congressional career ...
Barbara Boxer blasts Bush, Republicans on Energy Bill
Solar Power Questions:
Last week Congress voted down a bill that would allow for oil drilling in the US.What do you think about this?
It seems to me that while we are developing alternative energies, we could become less dependant on foreign oil quicker if we opened a few sites for our own drilling. What is so wrong with that? And why is it mostly only the Democrats who oppose becoming oil independant?
The Right wants to drill and pump while the Left wants green alternative power and in the final analysis of this argument; we the people get nothing. When you sum it up, I mean an honest summary, it’s a matter of who can push their agenda down the throats of the American people and how many times they can get on television so their names can be recognized and possibly be remembered by those voters who go to the ballot box, draw a blank or ignorantly vote for the name they recognize. And in all fairness we do understand there is sincere environmentalist, however, they hardly measure up to the will of the majority of the people….They are lobbyist!
How dare our government treat us as if the Snail Darter is more important than we the people, how dare our government place us in this kind of jeopardy, and how dare they do this with our tax dollar! I say what pro-green individual wants to pay five dollars for a gallon of gas and continue to worry that it will rise to ten? We have foreign governments drilling off our shores for oil they will eventually sell to us, we have governments that hate the United States, and will rejoice in the moment they get to pull the oil plug on us, and we have governments that are so unstable that an accidental slip of the tongue could ruin their entire economy or destroy their state causing crude to sky rocket or stop!
What’s wrong with us? If you look for the logic in this argument, any fool with the sense God gave them would say something like: It seems to me that we ought to start drilling for our own oil. Following with; and then create huge incentives that would convince American entrepreneurs to successfully work towards alternative power. I know the second phase of the argument will be how long it will take to get our own crude out of the ground and then what about the refineries? So it will take ten years! We should have started ten years ago, we made that mistake! But two wrongs don’t’ make a logical right. If we allow this oil inflation driven market to control us we are setting ourselves up for far worse trouble down the road. At this moment we are seeing prices inflate in other areas simply because we are too stupid to drill for our own oil. Could it be, we’re still not looking down that ten year road.
Yes we want to leave a clean world for our children, but we need to remember that this life of ours is short. Our children will survive (probably a lot better than us), but this is now and the argument is no longer valid, even if we want to think it is, it isn’t. How do we know someone won’t come up with a clean way to use crude? Why doesn’t our own government use alternative fuels now? I would feel a lot better about filling up my tank at five dollars a gallon knowing it wasn’t going to be ten dollars a gallon next year. So I say drill Anwar, drill off shore, drill the North Shore. Make those pipelines and build those refineries! We need them now!
Some have been laughing at Reverend Lindsey Williams for being an alarmist for decades, although he won’t, he could have the last laugh.
